“James and I have just completed and won the Great South American Challenge Rally. The route that was chosen for the rally included a lot of South Americas highlights joining together by the most brilliant driving roads where the landscape and scenery changed daily. This was topped off with the best available accommodation each night to rest up and relive the days excitement with fellow rally participants.”

“We would like to express our gratitude for the great time we had during the South-American Rally. We will never forget these six wonderful weeks full of spirit, fun, a little competition and impressive routes and countries. The selected accommodation was very convenient and clean.”

“It was a unique experience for which we would like to thank all the members of the organisation team. We would have very much enjoyed continuing the tour all the way back from Ushuaia to Rio with you.”

“First of all let me thank the entire HH Team for all your great efforts to provide such a wonderful adventure!  This was one of the best trips I have ever made in my life. I will always remember the routes, people and landscapes – all out of this world. Furthermore It was an opportunity to strengthen existing, and create new friendships while dealing the daily challenges on the road. I enjoyed myself all the way. It was certainly the very best rally I have had the privilege of participating in.”

We very much look forward to doing it again!”

In February the team headed for South America for a truly epic rally, the Great South American Challenge 2013, which encompassed five outstanding countries over 15,000 kilometres. Twenty nine cars started in Rio de Janeiro on one of the world’s true endurance events. If you were only going to South America once, then this route visited all the best places on the continent.

The rally took the participants to the spectacular Iguacu Falls in Brazil, through uncharted routes in  Bolivia to the amazing Uyuni salt flats. From there the rally made its way to La Paz, the highest capital city in the world, and on to Lake Titicaca, Cusco and Machu Picchu in Peru. Heading south  the cars moved on to some of the driest places in the world, including the fantastic Atacama desert, its spectacular guessers and the clearest night skies in the world. Who would have guessed that Milky Way was an almost solid block of stars!

We climbed the Andes up to 4,800 metres and then down one of the most spectacular routes into Salta and our first taste of Argentina. From here the wine regions of Argentina and wide open spaces of Patagonia beckoned. Sights included the great Perito Moreno glacier, the wonderful town of Bariloche and one of South America’s greatest hotels, the Llao Llao.

Finally the six week event arrived in the world’s most southerly city, Usuhaia where you can look out over the Beagle Strait towards the Antarctic and feel the chill winds heading north. Here at this time of year you will find Penguins and Sea Lions, sea birds and tranquillity – a truly wonderful place to finish a great event.

And the winner is….The first winner of the Great South American Challenge was the father and son team of Max and James Stephenson in their wonderful 1923 Vauxhall 23/60.

All good things come to an end they say, but this is not the end for the Great South American Rally which will be returning in October/November 2015. Book now if you don’t want to be disappointed.
